The State Shooting Sports Committee met earlier this week to discuss the future of shooting events that they have on the calendar.
Based on the schools being closed, and the cancellation of spring sports and activities across the state, the State Shooting Sports Committee decided to cancel the State Shoot. The committee discussed the option of postponing the State Shoot, but they decided that it would be best to cancel it for the year. The committee will look at having a 2020 Graduating Senior Showdown at some point in the future.
“It is important that our final year members get a chance to have a final event,” the committee announced in a FaceBook post. “This event will be scheduled when there is more clarity on the national pandemic and its effects on gatherings. This will be a one-year-only event with no plans for continuation.”
Other shooting competitions have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Match 3 has been canceled. The Archery Qualifier in Yankton that was set for June 13-14 has been postponed to the fall. National Level 2 Trainings have been either canceled or postponed by the National Committee and host locations. More information is expected on those trainings. The status National Shooting Sports Championships that are scheduled to take place in Grand Island, Neb., on June 21-26 has not been determined.
