Good Morning Britain viewers have criticised their interview with Meghan Markle’s dad Thomas Markle.

Markle, who is estranged from his daughter, appeared on Monday’s programme to discuss their relationship and her and husband Prince Harry’s decision to step back as senior royals.

He also said Prince Harry should ‘man up and fly down to see me’, as he begged Meghan to get back in touch.

Viewers felt the ITV programme added fuel to the fire with their interview, and felt Meghan and her father’s issues should be resolved ‘privately’.

Making their feelings known on Twitter, one viewer said: ‘Why does this man continue to get air time. We will never know what has gone on between him and Meghan. She has made her choice and he needs to accept it. The only person to be embarrassed is him.’

‘Thomas Markle -“This is a family problem and should be solved as a family’”. Also Thomas Markle – goes on national tv and makes a documentary about all the private details.’

A further tweet read: ‘So bored of Thomas Markle and his “exclusive” interviews. Everytime she does something you get “Thomas Markle gives his first interview since…..” 😴 No wonder he can’t build a relationship with her he’s trying to cash in at every chance he gets. The whole thing is boring.’

‘Families ghost family members all the time. Shame on you GMB giving Thomas Markle a forum again. Just leave it,’ read another tweet.

One viewer fumed: ‘Thomas Markle… All these issues should be talked about and resolved privately within the family… Yet here he is sat on national tv giving his opinion on everything he possibly can about Harry and Meghan and the royal family and the media.’

However others felt the interview painted Markle in a sympathetic light, with one comment saying: ‘This story is so sad. I feel sorry for Thomas Markle all he wants is his daughter back at the end of the day.

‘He seems regretful on his part in the early days. What a great interview Piers and Susanna.’

‘Some people are still slaughtering this man for daring to speak, I feel so sorry for him,’ another read.

Presenter Piers Morgan shared his thoughts and believes the situation with her father is ‘eating away’ at the Suits star.

He said on Monday’s episode: ‘People say all sorts of things may be behind the way she feels about this country, I think what’s eating away at her, I genuinely do, is this thing with her dad.

‘When you look at the way she spoke about him before this, only three years ago, I cannot imagine this is doing anything but eating away at her.

‘That’s the real sad thing. You can blame all sorts of other stuff, but she’s no longer in contact with the man that, at 11-years-old she left her mother to go and live with for seven years. You don’t do that if you don’t love the man. Very sad.’

ITV declined to comment.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
