While he is probably already busy enough with his commitments to AEW & NJPW, Jon Moxley finds time to show up anywhere he can to wrestle. One place you will find him soon is in Ireland, where he will compete for Over The Top Wrestling. Scrappermania is their biggest show of the year, and he will be taking on the OTT Champion in what is currently a non-title affair.
Their champion is David Starr, who is one of the top independent stars in wrestling today. When he isn’t rallying wrestlers to all unionize, he is putting on instant classics with people like Jordan Devlin, who he beat last year to ascend to OTT Champion. After defeating Jeff Cobb in what reports indicate was a fantastic matchup, his next challenger would be revealed.
Why Is The Match Non-Title?
After the match was announced, Starr would take to the ring to address his challenger. Starr claims that one off imports do not deserve title shots, hence non title. He also said jumping from one billion dollar company to another isn’t any kind of “paradigm shift.” This was in reference to an early promo Moxley cut for AEW, which got a lot of internet attention.
By Starr’s logic, should Moxley commit to more frequent appearances for the company, this match will become for the OTT Championship. It is a fresh stance for a champion of a smaller promotion to not offer a title shot to anyone who walks in, but it also shows that Starr fears losing his championship to someone like Jon Moxley. Should Moxley notch a victory, he will likely get a shot down the line.
What Else Does Jon Moxley Have On His Plate?
Jon Moxley has bigger fish to fry before he gets to David Starr. His biggest feud is with Chris Jericho & his Inner Circle in All Elite Wrestling, with them set to clash later this month at Revolution over the AEW Championship. It has been a heated feud, which has resulted in Moxley being spiked in the eye by Chris Jericho.
On the other side of the pond, Moxley is the current IWGP United States Champion in his second reign. He just defeated Minoru Suzuki to retain, and his next challenger will be Zack Sabre Jr. Sabre attacked him following that encounter.
